Fulton County has recently launched CarePortal – a digital “dashboard” that allows DCS workers to submit requests to churches to assist with support and needs of foster parents, kinship placements and reunited families. Mill Creek has joined this program to help fill requested needs.
We are also exploring the idea of developing care communities that would be small groups of people willing to walk alongside of foster parents. Care communities have shown effectiveness in that 90% of foster families who would have otherwise quit after their first year decide to stick with it. So much of what makes a foster or adoptive placement successful comes down to supporting the family that is taking care of the child.
